What HEIC is

Since 2017, iPhones save photos as HEIC - a modern format that stores the same quality in roughly half the space of JPG. It is excellent for storage, but many Windows apps, websites and printers still do not recognize it.

The symptoms

Photos copied from an iPhone show as .HEIC files Windows cannot preview
Upload forms reject the file type
The image opens on a Mac but not on a colleague's PC

The fix

Open HEIC to JPG and upload the .heic file
Click Convert - the server decodes HEIC and re-saves as standard JPG
Download the JPG - it opens everywhere and can be attached to any form

Preventing it at the source

On the iPhone, Settings > Camera > Formats > "Most Compatible" makes the camera save JPG directly. HEIC remains the better choice for storage when you control the whole pipeline.
